Christine is obsessed with people and their stories. In another life she was a graphic designer, but has spent the past 30 years working on commissioned portraits in pastel and in oil. Although she started out by painting her own children by bribing them with candy, she now works with models. Southwest Art Magazine picked Christine as an “Artist To Watch” many years ago and her career has taken off since then. Her “personality portraits” have been recognized in many international exhibitions including twice winning the Best of Show, “Prix de Pastel” Award with the International Association of Pastel Societies. (IAPS) Her work has been shown in international invitational exhibitions in Italy, China and France. 

Winning dozens of times in the Pastel Journals’ Pastel 100 International Competition led her to being asked to serve this year as the juror for the Portrait and Figure Category. She has also won Honorable Mentions in the Artists Magazine Competition, the ARC Salon International and the Portrait Society of America Members Only Competition. 

She is also published in the books, “How Did They Do That? -100 Ways To Paint People and Figures”, “Strokes of Genius” and the French publication, “40 Masters of Pastel.”

Christine is an Eminent Pastelist with IAPS, and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America. She has juried many international exhibitions around the country and will be teaching and serving as juror next year at the PANZ pastel convention in New Zealand. She is currently teaching the workshop, “The Power of Pastel” to pastel groups around the world and calls Greenville, South Carolina home. She writes a blog every month on painting, pastels and how to survive as an artist.

ART INSTRUCTION

Mentorship Classes 

Study each week with master artist and Eminent Pastelist Christine Swann in a small group setting in West Greenville at the light-filled Brandon Mill. Christine is expanding her mentorship classes to connect artists together on refining their craft and finding an artistic voice.

This is not a "how to" beginning art class, but rather personalized mentoring and group coaching with advanced lessons every month to accelerate your artistic journey. Beginner or advanced artists are welcome. All mediums and subject matter can be studied. Advanced old master composition systems, integrated color harmonies or figure and anatomy lessons are just some of the areas of study. Or, learn a new medium like watercolor.

Christine has been teaching all over the world and painting professionally for over 35 years.

Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 9:30- 12:00 

$40/session. First session is free.

2-Day Pastel Workshop
in Greenville

Luxury Artist Retreat
in the country of Dominica in the Caribbean

March 13-20, 2027

Master artist and Eminent Pastelist Christine Swann is leading a special artist retreat to Dominica. Beyond painting each day, this all-inclusive retreat includes meals, yoga and meditation classes, and a guided trip to Victoria Falls. Accommodations are at the luxurious Rosalie Resort which used to be a sugar and lime plantation. Transportation will be included to run around the area to paint and explore including turtle watching. Participants will also have a Caribbean cooking class and spa treatments in the hotel spa. The week will be spent on rest and finding our focus on our artistic path.

This workshop is open to all artists working in all mediums. Partners welcome. Supplies are not included, but artists will be packing light and painting plein air.  

Single Room Rate- $5100 for all instruction, events, meditation and cooking classes, spa treatments and meals each day.  Flight not included. Non-refundable deposit of $1000 due to hold spot.
